AAP Slams Congress, Questions Rahul Gandhi’s Silence Over 1984 Sikh Genocide Accused

Chandigarh: Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders — MP Malvinder Singh Kang and MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar — on Sunday strongly criticised Congress leader P. Chidambaram’s recent remarks on the 1984 Sikh genocide, accusing the Congress of repeatedly hurting Sikh sentiments and continuing to honour those allegedly involved in the massacre.

The AAP leaders asked why the Congress continues to “hurt Sikh sentiments” and why Rahul Gandhi “still keeps Jagdish Tytler, one of the culprits of the Sikh massacre, by his side.”

They alleged that Congress is still honouring the main accused — Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, and Kamal Nath — by giving them “key positions and political recognition.”

“The atrocities committed by Congress can never be forgotten,” the AAP leaders said in a joint statement.

‘Rahul Gandhi Must Explain Why He Protects Such People’

AAP MP Malvinder Singh Kang questioned the Congress leadership’s continued association with individuals accused in the 1984 riots.

“This is the same Congress that openly honoured those involved in the mass killings of Sikhs in Delhi — Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, and Kamal Nath — by giving them ministerial and chief ministerial positions,” Kang said.

He demanded that Rahul Gandhi “tell the nation how long he will continue to reward and protect such people.”

Kang warned Chidambaram that simply acknowledging that the 1984 massacre was wrong “does not erase the Congress’ crimes and sins.”

“The wounds inflicted on Sikhs in Punjab and Delhi remain fresh in the hearts of Sikhs across the world,” he said, adding that the community “can never forgive Congress for these atrocities.”

Operation Bluestar Remarks ‘An Attempt to Shield Indira Gandhi’

Responding to Chidambaram’s comments about Operation Bluestar, AAP MLA Inderbir Singh Nijjar accused the former Union Minister of trying to “share the blame with the Army and intelligence agencies” instead of holding then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi fully accountable.

“Everything that happens in the country is done with the consent of the head of the state. During Operation Bluestar, Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister and was fully responsible for the entire incident,” Nijjar said.

He added that Sikhs in Punjab and across the world “can never forgive Indira Gandhi and the Congress for the attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple).”

‘Congress Rewarded the Guilty’

Nijjar further criticised the Congress for defending and promoting those accused in the 1984 riots.

“Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, and Kamal Nath played a direct role in instigating violence and killing Sikhs, yet the Congress rewarded them with ministries and top posts,” he said.

“This clearly shows that the party’s intentions were never sincere,” Nijjar added.
