AAP MLA Harmeet Pathanmajra escapes from Police after arrest in rape case

Chandigarh, Sep 2: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab’s Sanaur assembly seat Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra has escaped from police custody. On Tuesday morning, after arresting him from Karnal in Haryana, the police were taking him to the police station, when Pathanmajra and his associates opened fire on the policemen and tried to run over them with a car, injuring a policeman.

Pathanmajra and his associates fled in a Scorpio and a Fortuner, of which the police have seized the Fortuner while the police team is chasing the absconding MLA in the Scorpio.

Before his arrest, Pathanmajra had released a video saying that Punjab Police has registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of IPC in an old case related to my ex-wife. Delhi’s AAP team is trying to dominate Punjab and my voice is being suppressed.

Pathanmajra was accused of hiding his first marriage and assault by his second wife Gurpreet Kaur in 2022. Apart from this, he was also in the headlines after an alleged pornographic video went viral.

Complaint lodged against Pathanmajra in 2022

This case against Pathanmajra came to light after the AAP government was formed in 2022. Gurpreet Kaur, a woman claiming to be the second wife of the MLA, had lodged a complaint at the Zirakpur police station alleging that the MLA was sending her obscene videos. Pathanmajra married her without divorcing his first wife and kept misleading her. The woman also alleged that the MLA was constantly threatening her.

On August 14, 2022, Gurpreet Kaur had also uploaded pictures of her marriage with the MLA on Facebook. Taking action on Gurpreet’s complaint, Zirakpur police has now registered a case of rape against Pathanmajra.
