AAP MLA’s Nephew shot dead in Jagraon; threats issued to family

The nephew of Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Jagraon in Ludhiana, Punjab, has been murdered. He used to help a kabaddi player, which had led to a rivalry with some young men in the village. On Monday, the two groups had agreed to confront each other at the grain market in Manuke village.

After the murder, the accused went to the deceased’s house and shouted threats. They reportedly said, “We have killed your son; his body is lying in the fields, go and pick it up.”

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Gagandeep Singh. He was a bouncer. He is survived by his three children (two daughters and one son).

Upon receiving the information, Hathur police station in-charge Kuldeep Singh, along with his police force, reached the spot and assessed the situation. The victim’s family told the police that their son was murdered due to an old rivalry related to the kabaddi player.

Clash between two groups in the village: According to reports, Gagandeep Singh used to help a young kabaddi player from the same village. This had led to a rivalry with some other young men in the village. It is reported that a fight broke out between two groups in the village late on Sunday night, after which both sides agreed to meet at the village grain market on Monday.

Reached the grain market, the other group opened fire: On Monday afternoon, when Gagandeep Singh reached the grain market with his 10-12 companions, about four young men from the other group were already present there. Seeing the larger group, the accused took out their weapons and started firing.

Taken to the hospital, declared dead by doctors: During the firing, a bullet hit Gagandeep Singh in the stomach, causing him to collapse, covered in blood. Seeing the firing, the others fled the scene. After the incident, Gagandeep’s brother and villagers immediately took him to Jagraon Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
