Srinagar: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday alleged that the Jammu and Kashmir Police placed him under house arrest in Srinagar, preventing him from addressing a press conference and joining protests against the arrest of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik.
“Dictatorship at Its Peak,” Says Singh
Sharing a video from the government guest house on X, Singh wrote:
“Dictatorship is at its peak. In a democracy, it is our constitutional right to raise our voice and protest for our rights.”
He further alleged that Dr. Farooq Abdullah, former J&K Chief Minister, was not allowed to meet him.
“If this is not dictatorship, then what is it?” Singh asked.
Kejriwal Slams “Sheer Hooliganism”
AAP convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal condemned the incident, saying:
“The former Chief Minister, who is the father of the current Chief Minister, is not even being allowed to meet Sanjay Singh in his own state. This is sheer hooliganism and dictatorship.”

Background: Malik’s Arrest and Protests
Mehraj Malik, president of AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8 under the Public Security Act (PSA) for allegedly disrupting public order and sent to Kathua district jail.
Protests have erupted across Doda, Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Thathri, continuing for four days.
On September 9, hundreds of supporters launched a “Doda Chalo” movement, clashing with police after being stopped. Stones were pelted, prompting police to use tear gas.
On September 10, violence escalated; police detained over 80 protesters, further heightening tensions.
Authorities invoked Section 163 of the BNS Act, restricting public movement without prior permission.
Security Tightened in Doda
Heavy security deployment continues in Doda district and surrounding areas, as protests show no signs of abating. Officials say the situation remains tense but under control.
