AAP Protest in Ludhiana Over MPs Joining BJP, Gherao Planned

Ludhiana: Kichlu Nagar in Ludhiana is set to witness intense political activity this afternoon. The Youth Wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a protest campaign against Rajya Sabha MP and prominent industrialist Rajinder Gupta. Angered by his recent decision to join the BJP, AAP workers will stage a gherao (siege) of his Trident Group office in Kichlu Nagar at 3:00 PM.

Joined BJP Yesterday, Faces Protest Today

Announcing the demonstration, Parminder Sandhu, the State Vice President of the AAP Youth Wing, stated that Rajinder Gupta’s move to the BJP constitutes a betrayal of the public mandate. He noted that Gupta had officially joined the BJP just yesterday; in protest against this move, Youth Wing workers from across Punjab will converge in Ludhiana today.

Gherao Scheduled for 3:00 PM: Heavy Police Deployment Expected

The policies of the BJP and the politics of defection will not be tolerated. The Youth Wing will take to the streets today to register its protest against the manner in which Rajinder Gupta has switched political allegiances.

Traffic jams are likely to get worse in the city

Kichlu Nagar is a mixed residential and commercial locality. In light of the call for a gherao, the police administration has been placed on high alert. Given the likelihood of a large gathering of workers, traffic routes on surrounding roads may be diverted. The protesters have declared that they will remain camped outside the office until their voices reach the highest levels of authority.
