AAP Sweeps Punjab Rural Polls, Wins Nearly 70% Seats; Kejriwal Announces ₹10 Lakh Health Insurance from Next Month

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) performed brilliantly in the Block Committee and Zila Parishad elections held in Punjab, winning nearly 70% of the seats. In the rural body elections, AAP captured 68% of the Block Committee and 72% of the Zila Parishad seats.

AAP won over 1,800 Block Committee seats, over 250 Zila Parishad seats and 261 other seats. The party lost 319 seats by less than 100 votes.

“This is a victory of public trust,” said Kejriwal and Mann.

During a press conference in Mohali, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this victory is a victory of the people’s unwavering faith in the government.

Kejriwal said that they had earlier won the majority in the elections held after the Akali Dal (2012) and Congress (2017) governments, but this victory after four years of the AAP government proves that the public is still with the government.

Rs 10 lakh health insurance card to be issued from January

Bullish on this victory, Arvind Kejriwal announced that a Rs 10 lakh health insurance scheme will be implemented next month, and cards for this scheme will start being issued from January.

Fewer lost seats were also mentioned

Kejriwal and Chief Minister Mann said that the margin of victory and defeat in 580 seats was less than 100 votes. Out of these, AAP won 261 seats, while 319 went to the opposition.

They said that if pressure was applied by calling DC/SDMs in some places, AAP could have won these seats too, but the government preferred fair elections.

CM Mann’s taunt on Channi and Akali Dal

Chief Minister Mann made a big attack on Shiromani Akali Dal, saying that the party that called itself the largest party in rural areas has now fallen to the third position.

He said, “Now Akali Dal has become a party limited to Bathinda and Lambi. It won 10-20 seats here and there.”
