Abhishek Sharma creates world record in ICC Rankings with brilliant show in Asia Cup 2025

New Delhi: India’s Abhishek Sharma has stormed into the record books by achieving the highest-ever rating points for a batter in ICC T20I rankings.

His exceptional performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup helped him retain the top spot while setting a new benchmark in world cricket.

Record-Breaking Asia Cup Performance

The 25-year-old left-hander smashed 314 runs in seven matches at an average of nearly 45 and an astonishing strike rate of 200.

Following his 61-run knock against Sri Lanka in the Super Four clash, Abhishek’s rating soared to 931 points. Although he managed just five runs in the final against Pakistan, he still retained the No.1 position with 926 rating points.

He surpassed England’s Dawid Malan, who previously held the record with 919 points.

Other Indian Performances in Rankings

Despite his match-winning effort in the Asia Cup final, Tilak Varma remains at No. 3 in the latest rankings with 901 points, just 25 points behind England’s Phil Salt, who is second.
Meanwhile, skipper Suryakumar Yadav endured a tough tournament, scoring only 72 runs in six innings at an average of 14. He has dropped two places to eighth, with 698 rating points.

Nissanka Rises to Career-Best Fifth Spot

Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka has climbed to fifth in the rankings after scoring a brilliant century against India in the Super Four stage. He now has 779 rating points, the highest of his career so far, and will be looking to build on this momentum.
