Abohar, Punjab: In a powerful show of solidarity and patriotism, hundreds of ex‑servicemen and vir naris from Punjab and Rajasthan participated in a grand rally held in Abohar on Sunday. The event saw veterans, their families, and supporters come together to pay tribute to the nation and raise awareness on issues concerning serving soldiers, veterans, and martyrs’ families.
The rally brought together a large contingent of retired soldiers, vir naris (women whose husbands have made the supreme sacrifice), and supporters from both Punjab and neighbouring Rajasthan. Participants marched through key areas of Abohar, carrying national flags and banners highlighting their demands and messages of unity.
Speakers at the rally paid heartfelt tribute to India’s brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The vir naris — wives of martyrs — were specially acknowledged for their courage and resilience. Emotional accounts of sacrifice and service resonated throughout the gathering, reinforcing the importance of remembrance and respect for the armed forces community.
While the rally served as a tribute, it also spotlighted several key demands from the veterans’ community. These included calls for improved welfare measures, timely pension benefits, better medical support, and enhanced employment opportunities for ex‑servicemen and families of martyrs. Organisers reiterated the need for sustained government focus on veteran welfare schemes.
The presence of participants from Rajasthan alongside those from Punjab highlighted a shared commitment across state borders towards recognising the contributions and sacrifices of India’s armed forces. It also underscored a growing movement among veteran groups to unite for common causes and strengthen their collective voice.
Local residents and community leaders also turned up to show respect and support for the rally participants. Many applauded the initiative, describing it as an important reminder of the bravery and sacrifices made by soldiers and their families. Several school and college students joined segments of the march, expressing admiration for the veterans and martyrs’ families.
