On Thursday morning, a sleeper bus traveling from Gonda to Delhi collided with a truck moving ahead of it on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Following the accident, panic and screams erupted among the passengers on board; the crash resulted in the deaths of two people, including the bus driver. Thirty-five injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment at PGI Saifai. The police have removed the wrecked vehicles from the roadway.
Accident Caused by Driver Dozing Off
Around 4:30 AM on Thursday, a sleeper bus was transporting passengers from Gonda to Delhi. Police stated that the driver briefly dozed off during the early morning hours; consequently, at the 83-kilometer milestone, he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, and the bus crashed into a truck traveling ahead of it.
The collision was so severe that the front section of the bus was extensively damaged. Following the impact, the passengers inside the bus began screaming in panic. The driver became trapped within the steering column and sustained critical injuries. Approximately 60 to 70 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The truck involved in the collision was loaded with rice and was traveling from Lucknow toward Delhi. Upon receiving information about the accident, CO Karhal Ajay Singh and Station In-charge Pradeep Kumar Pandey arrived at the scene with a police force.
Injured Sent to PGI Saifai
All injured passengers were extricated from the bus, after which 35 of them were transported to PGI Saifai with the assistance of local residents. The driver—43-year-old Ramjeevan, a resident of Mahakharpur Raghavpur in Basti district, who had been trapped in the steering column—was freed by the police using a hydraulic crane and subsequently sent to PGI. There, doctors pronounced the driver and one passenger—35-year-old Ramnaresh, a resident of Sijyal Tapra (Tarabganj Police Station area), Gonda district—dead on arrival. The Saifai Police have deposited the bodies in the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, approximately 35 passengers sustained injuries, including Parvez Ahmed (village Bedipur, District Basti); Mohit (resident of Durjanpur, Gonda); Raj Kumar (village Imela, District Gonda); Ramgopal (village Hatkati Chauhanpura, District Gonda); Ram Shankar (resident of Durjanpur, Gonda); Ashish Tiwari (village Pure Brahman, Barabanki); Sushila (village Santoshipurwa, Gonda); Sapna (village Dimra Sheikhpur, District Gonda); Devi Prasad Tiwari (village Tadakki Pakki, Gonda); Santosh and Rajni (residents of village Semra Sheikhpur, Gonda); Sanju (resident of Durjanpur, Gonda); Shivani (resident of Bandrah, Gonda); Manisha (resident of Parshupura, District Basti); Jagdamba Prasad Tiwari (resident of Bagahipurwa Parheta, Gonda); and Dharampal Yadav (resident of Panditpura Khojanpur, Gonda). Many passengers sustained minor injuries and were sent home after receiving first aid.
