Army soldier on leave died in an accident in Gurdaspur; Cremation performed with government honors

A soldier who had come home on leave from duty was seriously injured in a road accident and died during treatment.

Gurdaspur : A soldier who had come home on leave from duty was seriously injured in a road accident and died during treatment. The deceased has been cremated with full military honors in his native village. The deceased has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh (28), son of Sarup Singh, resident of village Bhagokawan, Gurdaspur. The father of the deceased is also retired from the army.

Deceased’s father Sarup Singh said that Lakhwinder had joined the Punjab Regiment of the Army about five years ago. At this time he was posted in Srinagar where after completion of two years he had to return to his platoon. Meanwhile, he came home on 22 February for a few days leave.

The same day in the evening he had gone to the market on his scooter for some work. After some time it was learned at home that he had met with an accident. It was revealed that Lakhwinder’s scooter had collided with a sign board on the road. Seriously injured Lakhwinder was admitted to Civil Hospital Gurdaspur but due to his condition being critical, he was referred to Amritsar where he died during treatment on 23 February.
