Bihar: A major accident was averted on Wednesday near the Chhapra bypass in Bihar’s Saran district due to the quick actions of a truck driver and traffic police. The truck, transporting CNG cylinders from Devendra Memorial Petrol Pump in Roza to Chandni Fuel Station in Motihari, began leaking as it neared the Mehiya Over Bridge.
Driver Raju Ansari noticed the CNG leak and promptly stopped the vehicle to prevent a disaster. The loud hissing sound of the escaping gas caused panic among locals, who fled in fear of an explosion.
Traffic police quickly took charge of the situation, evacuating nearby residents and halting traffic in both directions. Local shops turned off stoves and other potential ignition sources to minimize explosion risks. Traffic remained suspended until all gas from the leaking cylinder was safely released.
The Mufassil police station alerted the fire brigade, and Vishal Anand, the station’s officer in charge, confirmed the truck had been stopped for precautionary reasons. He stated, “There was a CNG leak, but it has now stopped. As a precaution, the vehicle has been halted, and we are gathering information from the driver.”
Raju Ansari expressed gratitude for the swift response from the traffic police and local residents, emphasizing that safety measures were taken immediately, including restricting traffic and ensuring no open flames were present. He remarked, “The gas started leaking suddenly. Thanks to the help from the traffic police and community members, we avoided a disaster.”
