Chemical spill at Baddi pharmaceutical firm leaves 14 workers unconscious

Himachal : In an alarming incident, 14 workers, most of them residents of Uttar Pradesh, fell unconscious in a pharmaceutical factory in Baddi, Himachal. The accident occurred when a chemical drum transported from the first floor to the second floor accidentally fell and caused a dangerous gas leak. The affected workers were rushed to a local hospital and 10 of them were later called to Chandigarh SMM when their condition worsened. Among the sick were 12 girls and two boys.

The leaked substance was identified as methylene chloride, a solvent chemical commonly used to coat tablets in the pharmaceutical industry. Dheeraj Gupta, the CEO of the industry, explained that the workers started fainting due to the chemical spill and immediate medical attention was given to Baddi Civil Hospital. Ten workers were later referred to SMM, Chandigarh and four to Katha Hospital of Baddi Civil Hospital.

This incident follows the tragic fire in Baddi last month which claimed nine lives. The recent chemical spill highlights the urgent need to thoroughly review safety measures and working conditions in industrial environments.

Baddi ASP Ashok Verma confirmed the incident and said that a case of workers fainting due to chemical leakage has come to light. The police are currently investigating the matter and all the injured workers are receiving treatment.

The authorities are asked to tighten regulations to ensure the welfare and safety of workers and emphasize the importance of strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
