Pathankot: A father and son had gone to immerse puja material in the river and drowned in Pathankot, Punjab. Divers have recovered the body of the father, while the 12-year-old son is being searched for. It is suspected that he drowned in the river due to the slipping of his feet.
Vinay Mahajan, a resident of Basant Colony, had gone with his 12-year-old son Aujas Mahajan to immerse puja material in the Chakki Dariya (river) of Pathankot. It is speculated that one of the two drowned in the water due to slipping of his feet and seeing one drowning, the other also jumped into the water to save him. Due to this both drowned in the water.
When the family saw that both did not return till evening, they reached Chakki bridge with the people of the locality. After this the family informed the police and NDRF team. Mohalla residents Ajay Mahajan and Naresh Kumar told that Vinay Mahajan had come on a scooter with his 12-year-old son Aujas Mahajan to float puja material in the Chakki river.
Both of them drowned after slipping in the water. However, the police have recovered the body of Vinay Mahajan. The child who drowned in the river is being traced. The police have sent the recovered body to the civil hospital for post-mortem and further action is underway.
