Bathinda: A private company bus (PB 11 DB-6631) has lost control and fell into a drain in Bathinda, Punjab on Friday. Eight people, including the driver, lost their lives, while more than 24 others sustained injuries.
The driver has been identified as Balkar Singh, a resident of Mansa. Those injured have been admitted to the civil hospital. The accident occurred near Jeevan Singh Wala village. The bus was travelling from Sardulgarh to Bathinda, carrying approximately 50 passengers. The administration and the NDRF team arrived at the spot to initiate rescue operations.
Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Shaukat Ahmed Parre stated that passengers reported that the driver was speeding when a large trailer approached from the opposite direction. To avoid a collision, the driver swerved, which ultimately led to the accident.
According to the police, a bus belonging to Guru Kashi Transport, near Jeevan Singh Wala village, it suddenly went out of control and overturned into a drain. This caused panic among the passengers, who began screaming. Upon receiving the information, nearby residents rushed to the spot and informed the police.
DC Shaukat Ahmed Parre and SSP Amneet Kaundal also arrived at the location. Villagers brought ladders to help rescue the trapped individuals, who were pulled from the bus using this equipment. After the rescue, the injured were taken by ambulance to Talwandi Sabo Hospital for treatment.
Some were later referred to the civil hospital for further care. The bodies of the deceased have been placed in the mortuary. Among the victims are a two-year-old girl and her mother, as well as a disabled individual from Haryana.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his condolence on the demise of 8 people in a road Accident. CM Mann wrote on his social media handle that “I am saddened to report a tragic private bus accident at Lasada Drain on Talwandi Sabo Road in Bathinda. The administration team is currently on-site, and the injured passengers have been transported to the hospital. Rescue operations are ongoing, and we are receiving updates continuously.
