Accused dies in police custody in Bahraich; family alleges police torture

Bahraich: A 55-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh died in police custody. His family has alleged torture by police personnel and demanded action.

Brought to police station for questioning

The accused was brought to the police station on Thursday evening after receiving a complaint.

According to police officials, his health suddenly deteriorated during interrogation.

Declared dead in hospital

Police said the accused was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

Family accuses police of torture

The deceased’s family alleged that he was severely beaten inside the police station, and that his death was not due to natural causes but due to police torture.

Following the family’s complaint, an FIR has been filed against the SHO, a constable, and other unidentified police personnel. The investigation is ongoing.
