Accused in Kidnapping and Rape of Six Girls Shot Dead in Encounter

Satpal alias Sattu, an escaped gangster from Punjab, was killed in an encounter in Muzaffarnagar, UP. He was lodged in Ludhiana jail for 16 years. He escaped from jail in February 2026. Since then, he had been living hiding in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining districts in UP. Police say that the accused was a serial rapist.

Sattu was arrested by the police in an encounter at 11.30 pm on Monday. He was hit by two bullets in the encounter. One leg and the other above the waist. The police admitted him to the hospital. However, on Tuesday, his health suddenly deteriorated. He died at 1 p.m. Doctors say that Sattu died due to excessive bleeding.

SSP Sanjay Verma said:

In the search, the footage of about one thousand CCTV cameras was scanned. The location was traced with the help of surveillance. The investigation revealed that the accused kidnapped the teenager on the pretext of a job and took her to Punjab. Raped by holding her hostage in Punjab. Later, he escaped by sitting in a bus in Yamunanagar.

Bullets were fired at the police during the checking.

SP City Amrit Jain said that at 11:25 pm on Monday night, a joint team of Civil Lines Police and SOG was checking on the Bamanhedi-Roorkee road. Meanwhile, a suspicious car with Punjab number was seen. When the police signaled the vehicle to stop, the driver started fleeing with the car. When the cordon was surrounded, the accused left the car and started firing at the police team.

Two policemen were injured in the miscreant’s bullet. The police retaliated in self-defence, in which Satpal alias Sattu was seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital, where he died during treatment. The police have recovered a .32 bore pistol, cartridges, fake Aadhaar card, mobile phone, car used in the crime and gold earrings of the kidnapped teenager from the spot.

Chhota Rajan has been an accused in the gang.

According to the police, Satpal alias Sattu son of Munnu Ram was a resident of Ramdarbar Sector-32, Chandigarh. He has been an active member and shooter of the notorious criminal Chhota Rajan gang. He has more than 24 criminal cases registered against him in different states, including murder, robbery, rape, kidnapping. He was in jail for nearly 15 years and escaped from Ludhiana jail in February 2026.

Police are investigating the network

Both the policemen, who were injured in the encounter, are undergoing treatment. SP City Amrit Jain reached the hospital and took care of him and instructed the doctors for better treatment. The police are now also probing the accused’s criminal network; his associates and other crimes committed during the absconding.
