Action Taken Against Illegal Tree Felling in Mohali; Forest Guard Suspended

Major action has been taken regarding the illegal felling of approximately three dozen lush green trees on the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway in Mohali district, right in front of Indus Hospital. In connection with this incident, a Forest Guard has been suspended on charges of negligence and collusion, while the police have registered a criminal case against three individuals and initiated an investigation.

After inspecting the site, DFO Amneet Singh issued orders noting that approximately 30 trees were found to have been cut down along the highway. During the inquiry, Forest Guard Raghbir Singh—the In-charge of the Lalru Beat—and Block Officer Amar Singh were asked to provide an explanation regarding the matter; however, they failed to provide a satisfactory response.

Consequently, the department took immediate action and suspended Forest Guard Raghbir Singh. Meanwhile, a departmental inquiry has also been initiated against Block Officer Amar Singh. Separately, a case has been registered at the Dera Bassi Police Station based on a complaint filed by GMR In-charge Santosh Singh.

The police have registered a case against Sukhwinder Singh, Akram, and Sahil, and an investigation into the entire matter is currently underway.
