Washington: The proposed $10 billion investment by the Adani Group in the United States has been described as a “game-changer” by Indian-American community leader and former US presidential adviser Ajay Bhutoria. He also called the recent legal developments involving the group a “definitive legal victory.”
Speaking from Silicon Valley, Bhutoria said the resolution of legal matters surrounding the group marks a significant turning point in US–India economic relations and clears the way for large-scale investments.
Legal Case Dismissal Called a Major Relief
Bhutoria stated that the US Department of Justice has moved to permanently dismiss criminal charges against Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani “with prejudice,” which he described as a major legal victory.
He also noted that related civil matters were settled, including a resolution with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and a $275 million settlement by Adani Enterprises linked to historical regulatory issues, without any admission of wrongdoing.
Investment Seen as Boost to US Infrastructure
According to Bhutoria, the proposed investment is expected to have a major impact on American infrastructure and economic growth.
He said the plan includes large-scale funding across infrastructure and technology sectors in the United States, with expectations of significant job creation and industrial expansion.
‘15,000 Jobs’ and Economic Impact Highlighted
Bhutoria claimed that the investment could generate around 15,000 direct jobs and additional indirect employment opportunities in manufacturing, construction, and related sectors.
He added that the initiative could help reshape perceptions of Indian companies in the United States by positioning them as contributors to domestic growth rather than competitors for jobs.
Role in AI and Energy Sector Expansion
Highlighting the growing demand from artificial intelligence and data center expansion, Bhutoria said the US power grid is under increasing pressure.
He suggested that the Adani Group’s expertise in infrastructure and clean energy could help support the development of a more resilient and modern energy system in the US.
Strengthening US–India Economic Ties
Bhutoria described the development as a major step in strengthening US–India relations, calling it a signal that the United States remains open to global investment.
He said the move could further deepen economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries and reinforce their long-term partnership.
