Afghan Heroin, Foreign Weapons Worth ₹50 Crore Seized in Rajasthan; Cross-Border Smuggling Network Exposed

Jaipur: Rajasthan Police have uncovered a major international narcotics and arms smuggling network following the seizure of 10.999 kg of Afghan heroin and foreign-made weapons worth nearly ₹50 crore near the India-Pakistan border in Bikaner district. Investigators say the racket has links stretching from a Punjab prison to Pakistan, Dubai and Afghanistan.

The breakthrough came after police recovered 11 foreign-made pistols, 22 magazines and 100 live cartridges, which were allegedly dropped by a drone near the Khajuwala international border in Bikaner.

The operation led to the arrest of Virendra Singh Rajpurohit, a resident of Rajasthan’s Pali district, whose interrogation revealed the alleged existence of a well-organised cross-border smuggling syndicate.

Punjab Jail, Pakistan and Dubai Links Under Scanner

According to investigators, the entire operation was allegedly being coordinated by Vicky alias Vikram, who is currently lodged in a Punjab jail.

Police said Vicky maintained direct contact with handlers based in Pakistan, while payments for the heroin consignment were routed through a hawala network operated by associates in Dubai before reaching Pakistan.

The investigation is being jointly carried out by the Bikaner Police, Punjab Police and central security agencies, which are working to identify every member of the international network.

Inspector General of Police Om Prakash and Bikaner Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhwa said investigators are tracing the financial trail used to fund the smuggling operation.

Drone Deliveries and Youth Recruited as Couriers

Police have also uncovered an organised courier network operating across Rajasthan and Punjab. Preliminary investigations suggest unemployed and financially vulnerable youths were allegedly recruited with promises of quick money to collect drugs and weapons dropped near the border and transport them to designated locations.

According to police, arrested accused Virendra Singh allegedly received ₹50,000 for delivering one such consignment.

Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma said coordinated efforts with central agencies are underway to dismantle the entire cross-border syndicate.

Probe Linked to Earlier Heroin Seizure

Investigators have linked the case to an April heroin seizure in Bikaner’s Pogal police station area, where 14 kg of heroin was recovered from a scooter following a road accident.

In that case, Rahul Rawat and Prashant, both from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, have already been arrested, while the alleged kingpin Rakesh Prajapat remains absconding.

Police have formed seven special investigation teams to trace Prajapat and other members of the syndicate. Preliminary findings indicate the network has an active presence in Jodhpur, Nagaur and Pali, with around 20 to 25 members believed to be involved.

Authorities are now coordinating with district police units across Rajasthan to dismantle the network and identify all individuals involved in the cross-border movement of narcotics and illegal weapons.
