Five killed, 44 injured as bus overturns in Afghanistan’s Baghlan

Baghlan, Dec 21 – At least five people were killed and 44 others injured after a passenger bus overturned in the Salang area of northern Baghlan province, officials confirmed. The accident occurred Sunday on a key mountainous highway that connects the region to other parts of northern Afghanistan.

 What Happened on the Highway

Local authorities say the bus was travelling along the Salang route when it lost control and overturned, causing the fatal crash. Emergency responders and medical teams were dispatched to the scene, and the injured victims were taken to hospitals in Baghlan for treatment.

Road accidents are common in Afghanistan due to challenging terrain, often icy or poorly maintained roads, and limited traffic safety enforcement. Such conditions frequently contribute to vehicles overturning or veering off highways.

Officials have so far reported five deaths and 44 injuries, though the toll could change as authorities complete their assessments.
