Child falls 45 feet from zip line swing in Agra, dies after safety belt allegedly opens

In Agra, the 16-year-old son of a bangle trader died after falling from a 45-feet high zip line. A video of this has surfaced. It showed that as the minor moved from the zip line swing to the other end, the hook of his safety belt came off and fell down. He died in agony in front of his parents.

The incident took place in the city’s Tajganj on Sunday. Kunal Agarwal had come to visit Agra from Firozabad with his parents. After the accident, the police stopped the operation of the zip line. The zip line operator has been taken into custody.

DCP City Syed Ali Abbas said- On the complaint of the father, an FIR has been registered at the Tajganj police station against the owner of EOD Chowpatty, Safety In-charge Zip Line, EOD. The parents clung to the corpse of the son and cried. The father cried and said—

My son left because of the negligence of the zip line operators. I had brought him for a walk; now how do I take his body home?

At the insistence of the son, the father had agreed to zipping.

Pankaj Agarwal, a bangle trader from Firozabad, said, “I have two sons. The eldest son, Kunal, was studying in Class 11. The younger son is Mayank. Due to Sunday, he came to Agra with his family. First thing in the morning, Khatu went to the Shyam temple. From there, I watched the film at the Gold Cinema. After this, he reached the Chowpatty of Tajganj at 5 pm.

Kunal was fond of adventure. Seeing the zip line, he began to insist. He said he had to do zipping, too. I agreed. We bought a ticket for 400 rupees. When he started going to the zip line, the younger brother said to Mayank – You keep making my video. Mayank was making Kunal’s video.

According to eyewitnesses, the staff put the child on a zip line and put on a belt. He was left at the other end. During this time, the accident happened. The child first hit the iron mesh, then fell straight to the ground. The parents rushed to pick up the son, but by then he was dead. After this, they sat next to the corpse of the son and kept crying. The police, who reached the information, explained to the family and sent the body for postmortem.

Father said – did not get treatment on time, son died in front of my eyes The father said – Kunal was not even given a helmet for the zip line. If there was a helmet, there could have been a defense when the head hit the ground. His life could have been saved. The police have also admitted to the lack of standards in the investigation.

There was no arrangement for first aid in Chowpatty after the accident. Nor was there any vehicle to take him to the hospital. Due to this, the son could not get timely treatment, and he died in front of my eyes.

Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar inspected the spot. He directed the officials to conduct a fair investigation and take strict action against the culprits.

ADCP Himanshu Gaurav said that adherence to safety standards is very important in adventure activities. Initial investigations have raised serious questions about safety equipment and arrangements. Police are trying to ascertain whether the accident occurred due to technical fault or negligence.
