Lucknow: An Air India Express flight travelling from Varanasi to Delhi made an emergency landing at Lucknow airport on Thursday morning after a smoke alarm went off in the aircraft’s cargo compartment, according to sources.
The pilot immediately contacted Lucknow airport after the smoke detection alarm was triggered. The aircraft was allowed to land after receiving permission from Air Traffic Control (ATC).
As soon as the aircraft landed, the airport response team took charge of the situation. Fire brigade personnel and technical experts also reached the spot and inspected the aircraft.
The aircraft, operating as flight IX 1253, took off from Varanasi airport at around 8 a.m. on Thursday. Shortly after take-off, the smoke detection alarm in the cargo compartment went off. Following this, the pilot landed the aircraft at Lucknow airport at around 8:52 a.m.
At around 9:02 a.m., all 155 passengers and crew members were deboarded from the aircraft. Following an inspection, the aircraft was parked at the airport stand.
The initial inspection found no signs of smoke inside the aircraft. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the alarm.
The passengers will be flown to Delhi on another aircraft.
