Air India Deploys Special Milan–Delhi Flight After Technical Snag Strands 250 Passengers

New Delhi: Air India has announced a special relief flight (AI138D) from Milan to Delhi to assist over 250 passengers affected by the cancellation of flight AI138 on October 17, following a technical issue with the aircraft.

Flight Details and Schedule

The special flight is scheduled to depart Milan at 7:00 p.m. local time on Sunday and arrive in Delhi on the morning of October 20, coinciding with Diwali celebrations.

“Air India will operate an additional flight from Milan to Delhi today to accommodate passengers of flight AI138, which was cancelled on 17 October due to a technical issue,” the airline said.

Cause of Cancellation and Immediate Response

The disruption occurred when an Air India Dreamliner (Boeing 787-8) developed a technical fault at Milan Airport, requiring extended maintenance. The airline responded by offering:

• Hotel accommodation
• Meals
• Full refunds or complimentary rescheduling, based on passenger preference

“Air India has extended all immediate assistance to affected passengers,” the airline added.

Social Media Complaints and Clarification

In response to social media criticism regarding limited facilities at Milan Airport, Air India clarified:

“All affected passengers have been provided hotel accommodation; however, due to limited availability, some rooms were arranged outside the immediate vicinity of the airport.”
