New Delhi: An Air India flight operating from Delhi to Amritsar briefly entered Pakistani airspace while carrying out a go-around manoeuvre during landing at Amritsar airport, the airline confirmed on Wednesday.

Incident Occurred During Landing Attempt

According to Air India, the incident involved flight AI479, which was flying from Delhi to Amritsar on June 22. The aircraft reportedly made a marginal entry into Pakistani airspace while executing a go-around procedure near the airport.

A go-around is a standard aviation safety manoeuvre in which a pilot aborts a landing attempt and climbs back into the air for another approach.

Matter Reported to Authorities

In a statement, the airline said, “The crew operating flight AI479 from Delhi to Amritsar on 22 June had marginally infringed into the Pakistan airspace while manoeuvring a go-around at Amritsar airport. The incident has been reported to the regulatory authorities and is being investigated internally.”

Internal Probe Underway

Air India said the matter has been formally reported to the concerned aviation regulators and an internal investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the airspace infringement.

The airline also reiterated that the safety and security of passengers and crew remain its highest priority.
