Aishanya says no justice till terrorism ends, I received a lifetime of pain,

The Pahalgam terror attack took place exactly one year ago on April 22. The terrorists killed 26 people by asking for names and religion. 30-year-old Shubham Dwivedi, a resident of Kanpur, was shot in the head in front of his wife Aishanya Dwivedi. Shubham and Aishanya got married two months ago.

Even after a year of the terrorist attack, Aishanya has tears in her eyes remembering Shubham. They say – neither the anniversary nor any festival. Now there are only memories and as far as justice is concerned, there will be no peace until terrorism is eradicated.

Shubham’s father Sanjay Dwivedi has put a picture of his son in the office; after looking at it, he sits on the chair. Every month, a feast is also organized in the name of Shubham in the village. Sanjay Dwivedi, father of Aishanya and Shubham, had an exclusive conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. They shared their feelings.

Aishanya said- When the son leaves the world in front of the parents, there can be no greater sorrow than this. How can we forget the husband who was killed by terrorists in front of a man who has been married for two months? Now it’s the pain of a lifetime.

How happy we were, everything was ruined

Aishanya becomes emotional recalling the entire incident. She says that we had gone out for a trip on April 17 last year. This year, since that date, I have been constantly remembering those moments. I am looking at the pictures from that time. Looking at those pictures, it feels like how happy we were, but the past April 22 ruined everything for me.

The pain of a lifetime… I cannot forget

Aishanya says that if your life partner is taken away or killed in front of you, no one can ever forget it. This is a life-long trauma. There were 26 people with her husband, and her husband was killed in front of their wives. This is the pain of an entire lifetime. I cannot forget this.

I don’t know whom to tell about good things

Aishanya says that when you lose someone, every day becomes difficult. Whether it is a festival or an anniversary. Our marriage had only been two months old. I did not celebrate any anniversary with him, nor any festival. Whenever I do something good, I feel like telling someone, then I wonder, whom should I tell.

I am gaining strength from my family

Aishanya says that if the family is together, that itself is the greatest strength. Along with my in-laws, I also had the support of my parents. This is why we were able to endure all this. It is because of living together that we became strong.

No meeting with the PM again, the CM had come

Aishanya says – I did not meet PM Modi again, but the CM had come to our place. Then my father-in-law, Shubham’s father met the CM in June-July 2025. There were also several phone conversations. There have been attempts to meet the CM, but due to the Bengal elections, the meeting has not happened yet. But I want to meet him, I am making efforts.

Relief will be felt only when terrorism is completely eradicated

Aishanya says that after Operation Sindoor, Operation Mahadev also took place, in which terrorist hideouts were destroyed first. In Operation Mahadev, those terrorists were eliminated who were responsible for this. Information keeps coming that military operations are also carried out on other hideouts in Kashmir. Both operations are a relief, but until terrorism is completely eradicated, full relief will not be achieved.

Is your country first or your religion?

Aishanya says – this is not just a terrorist attack, but a Hindu genocide. Because there, the Hindu religion was targeted, and they were forced to recite the Kalma and then killed. They were asked whether they were Hindu or Muslim. If Muslim, recite the Kalma, and then they were targeted. Terrorism has no religion. Terrorists have very despicable thinking; they are not human. In our Puranas there were demons; these are the same demons. I do not have an answer why it is only from a particular religious community. But it is a question that should definitely be asked: is your country first or your religion?

Efforts being made to cherish memories

Aishanya says that Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana has remained in constant contact with our family. He even had a gate built in Shubham’s ancestral village. When he came to lay its foundation, he had said that a biopic of Shubham would also be included in the Assembly’s digital library. Every effort is being made to cherish Shubham’s memories. We met him just two days ago. We also talk over the phone regularly. He is the only person who is consistently in touch with us. The tender for a park has been completed, but some technical issues are stuck. Once they are resolved, work on the park will begin. There is no information about the other matters yet.

On the question of entering politics, Aishanya said

When asked about entering politics, Aishanya says that I am only 28 years old, I have never thought about anything like this. But, if the question arises, I have always been involved in social work. Now there is no life partner in my life, so I keep thinking about doing social work. What will happen next, I do not know, because whatever has happened in my life so far, I never thought of it either. Two months after marriage, I lost everything in the attack, I never thought of this either.

Father Sanjay said – Such an incident would happen, I never even dreamed of it.

We also spoke to Shubham’s father, Sanjay Dwivedi. Recalling those moments, he says, it had only been two months since our son’s wedding. Both families had happily planned to take the children to Kashmir together.

But I never even dreamed that such an incident would happen with our family. After this, whatever happened, nothing could be a greater sorrow for us and the family. We remember him every day, but we have to stay as God keeps us.

On April 22, a program is also being organized in Kanpur to pay tribute to Shubham. The courage, support, and strength that the people of Kanpur gave us have helped us bear that sorrow.

After the accident, it was difficult to handle Shubham’s mother.

Sanjay Dwivedi says that on February 26, Shubham’s birthday, and on February 12, the day of his wedding, he was missed very much. The biggest difficulties were in handling Shubham’s mother. You cannot take someone away from the memory of Shubham, but still, somehow, they managed her.

Father Sanjay Dwivedi says that on the 22nd of every month, we also hold a feast in our village in Shubham’s name, so on that date, it feels like how many months have passed since Shubham left.

Operation Sindoor gave us satisfaction.

Sanjay Dwivedi says that Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana is very close to our family. When I was bringing Shubham from Kashmir, even the CM called me. The government helped us a lot.

The government carried out Operation Sindoor, which gave us satisfaction, and it must have brought peace to Shubham’s soul as well. I had requested the PM that the attack was an attack on the country in which 26 people were killed by terrorists. That’s why we demanded the status of martyr for him. We are still making that demand.

During that time, many leaders from political parties met me and listened to my demand. Even Rahul Gandhi had said that he would write a letter to the PM regarding this. As for Akhilesh Yadav, he did not come to meet because he had said that we belong to the upper caste, and he would not come. He only goes to Muslims and PDA people. He does not care about us.

Terrorists had shot tourists in the valley by asking for their names

Shubham Dwivedi (30) of Kanpur was shot dead in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025.

Aishanya had told that she was sitting with Shubham in a restaurant in Bysaran Valley. At around 2.15 pm, the terrorists came and started firing. This created an atmosphere of chaos there. One of the terrorists asked Shubham his name.

As soon as the name was revealed, Shubham was shot in the head. Shubham fell to the ground and Aishanya fell unconscious. 26 people were killed in the terrorist attack. It was only after this that the Indian government launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.
