Allegations of attempted rape of student at Kanpur University

Kanpur: A BMLT student at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University in Kanpur has alleged that three classmates molested and attempted to rape her in a classroom.

The incident reportedly occurred on March 16 in a classroom in the Health Sciences Department, raising serious questions about campus security.

Action taken on family complaint
According to the victim, the accused entered the classroom after finding her alone and assaulted her. After the incident, the student informed her family, who then approached the university administration.

Vice Chancellor Sudhir Awasthi immediately informed the police.

Police arrested three accused
Kalyanpur police have registered a case against the three named accused and taken them into custody.

DCP SM Qasim Abidi stated that the victim’s statement is being recorded and a medical examination has been conducted. Further action will be taken based on the evidence.

University Forms Investigation Committee
The university administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate the matter, consisting of the Proctor, Dean of Student Welfare, and the Head of the concerned department.

The administration has stated that strict disciplinary action will be taken against the culprits after the report is received.

After this incident came to light, questions have once again been raised about the security arrangements on the university campus, especially regarding the safety of female students.

The police stated that the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence.
