Alpana Buch recalls doubting Rupali as Anupama

Mumbai: Actress Alpana Buch, who essays the role of Baa in the show Anupamaa, recalled her first meeting with Rupali Ganguly and how she had initially doubted her casting.

Sharing a heartfelt birthday note for Rupali on April 5 along with a series of pictures, Alpana expressed her admiration for her co-star.

From Monisha to Anupama transformation

Alpana wrote,

“Rupali = Anupama
Anupama = Rupali

I saw a person become a character when I met you. For the first time we met in look test, thought how Monisha can become Anupama? As soon as I started shooting with you, there was doubt even then it was doubt that how can Monisha become Anupama?”

She added that watching the first episode answered all her doubts and praised Rupali for completely blending into the character.

Rupali was widely known for her comic role as Monisha in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai before taking on the emotionally layered role in Anupamaa.

Candid moments from sets delight fans

The carousel post featured several candid and behind-the-scenes moments from the sets of Anupamaa with both Alpana and Rupali Ganguly.

One picture showed Alpana dressed as Santa Claus alongside Rupali in a red saree, while another captured the two in vibrant traditional outfits during a festive sequence.

In one frame, Rupali appeared in bridal attire, while another lighter moment showed Alpana wearing a sheet mask as Rupali leaned in for a selfie. A candid shot also captured them laughing together off-camera.

Anupamaa remains a top TV show

Talking about Anupamaa, the show, which premiered in 2020, continues to be one of the most-watched shows on Indian television.

Rupali essays the titular role of Anupamaa, a homemaker who gradually finds her voice and independence. The show also stars Sudhanshu Pandey and Gaurav Khanna, and is produced by Rajan Shahi.

Before Anupamaa, Rupali became a household name with her portrayal of Monisha alongside Ratna Pathak Shah, Satish Shah and Sumeet Raghavan, making the show a cult favourite over the years.
