Amaal Mallik says the controversies have taken a greater toll on his family than on him

Mumbai: Singer and composer Amaal Malik has spoken candidly about navigating controversies in the public eye, admitting that while he has learned to deal with criticism, his family has borne the brunt of it more than he has.

‘My Family Gets Affected More Than Me’

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Amaal said he has reached a point where he no longer feels compelled to respond to every allegation or online reaction. “My family gets affected more than I do. I’ve answered everything I needed to over the years. After a while, I wondered how many people I can keep explaining myself to. People can see the truth now,” he said. He added that he has consciously reduced reacting on social media, stressing that his real personality was visible to viewers on Bigg Boss. “Whatever I am — not 100 per cent, but 300 per cent — was there on the show. That’s who I am.”

Parents’ Feedback and Support

Speaking about his parents’ response to his journey, Amaal shared that they are happy and have been spending a lot of time with him at home. While expressing pride in his conduct overall, they also offered constructive feedback. “They did point out that I could have controlled my aggression better at certain moments, especially the plate incident. But overall, they’re very proud. Whatever emotions I felt inside the house, they felt the same watching from outside,” he said.

Speaking His Truth on National TV

Recalling emotional moments on the show, particularly when his father and brother entered the house, Amaal said those instances reflected the strong bonds within his family. He also spoke about opening up on national television about his grandfather and his mother’s struggles. “If someone asks me about my journey, I’ll speak honestly. I’m not afraid to tell my truth. I don’t worry about image or followers. If I’m telling my story, I’ll tell it fully. My parents may have felt some things could have been said differently, but they weren’t living inside the house. I spoke from my heart,” he explained.

Amaal Malik emerged as the fourth runner-up in the reality show Bigg Boss 19.
