Aman Arora Announces DA Proposal for Punjab Employees Recruited After 2020

The Punjab government is preparing to make a major announcement for newly recruited government employees. A cabinet sub-committee has prepared a proposal to provide DA equal to the central government rate for employees recruited after 2020. Currently, employees in Punjab receive 42% DA. A final decision will be made after the proposal receives cabinet approval.

Controversy over pay scales and DA in Punjab

Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that there has been a long-standing controversy in Punjab regarding different pay scales. The government says that the basic pay of Punjab employees is 30 to 70% higher than the central pay scale in many cases. According to Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, the salaries of Punjab employees, including basic pay and DA, are higher than those of many states. According to the government, the state spends approximately 51% of its total revenue on the salaries and pensions of employees and pensioners.

Conflict between government and employees over pending DA

Employees and pensioners have been owed DA for several years. The Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the government to pay the outstanding amount. Citing financial difficulties, the government has challenged this decision in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, employee unions have also filed a caveat in the Supreme Court to prevent the government from granting unilateral relief.
