Five Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims Injured in Road Accident on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Jammu: Five pilgrims travelling to the holy Amarnath shrine were injured after their vehicle met with an accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district early Friday morning.

According to officials, the accident occurred at around 6:10 a.m. near Toldi Nallah on the Udhampur-Chenani stretch of the highway. The pilgrims were travelling in an Ertiga bearing registration number MP13ZY-2836 and were on their way to the Amarnath Yatra from Madhya Pradesh.

One woman critically injured

Officials said all five occupants sustained injuries, with one woman reported to be in critical condition. The injured were immediately rescued and shifted to the Associated Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur for treatment.

Personnel from the CRPF’s 137 Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Traffic Police, Civil Defence, and Gorkha 4/3 took part in the rescue operation.

Jitendra Singh assures all possible assistance

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh confirmed the incident and said he had spoken to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa soon after receiving information about the accident.

He said one critically injured woman had been referred to Government Medical College, Jammu, for advanced treatment and assured that all necessary assistance was being provided.

“Every possible assistance is being provided. My office is in constant touch,” the Union Minister said.

Over 1.60 lakh pilgrims have completed the Yatra

The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra began on July 3, and more than 1.60 lakh devotees have visited the holy cave shrine so far.

On Friday, over 8,000 pilgrims departed from Jammu in escorted convoys for the Nunwan and Baltal base camps.

The 57-day Amarnath Yatra 2026 is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
