Ambala: Father of three jumps in front of a truck after a quarrel with his wife

A father of three caused a major scene on Tuesday amidst a domestic dispute. After quarreling with his wife, the enraged husband stopped an auto-rickshaw and initially threatened to commit suicide on the Ambala-Delhi highway. Suddenly, he jumped in front of a truck heading towards Delhi on the flyover.

Critically injured, he was brought to the Civil Hospital in the Cantonment area, where, following first aid, he attempted to attack himself with a pair of scissors. Hospital staff acted promptly to save his life. Given his critical condition, doctors referred him to PGI Chandigarh immediately after administering initial treatment.

Husband had followed his wife from UP
The injured man’s wife, Lakshmi, stated that she had married Shakti Kapoor, a resident of Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, eight years ago. She alleged that her husband used to physically abuse her after consuming excessive alcohol. Fed up with the constant fighting, Lakshmi had arrived at her maternal uncle’s house near Manav Chowk in Ambala City with her three children just two days prior. Her husband arrived in Ambala two days later. He initially created a ruckus at the house, attempting to take them away by force.

Lakshmi was on her way to the railway station with her husband and children when he got out of the auto-rickshaw near Kali Paltan Bridge and began creating a scene on the roadside. He then jumped in front of a speeding truck. The man sustained fractures in both legs and other bodily injuries in the incident.

Led police on a two-hour chase; even ran after them with a brick
Rajindra, the in-charge of the Lalkurti police outpost, stated that they had received information about a man creating a disturbance while standing on the highway divider. Police teams tried hard to reason with him, but he refused to listen. At one point, he even chased the police while holding a brick. Eventually, the police apprehended him and brought him to the outpost.

When his wife mentioned taking him to Bareilly, he was put into an e-rickshaw and sent towards the railway station. Shortly thereafter, it was learned that the man had jumped in front of a truck and sustained injuries. He was referred from the Cantonment Civil Hospital to PGI Chandigarh; there is no information from there yet.
