Corporation elections in Ambala after 4 months; Preparations begin in wards

Municipal elections in Ambala are now about 4 months away. Political movements have now started to come to the fore openly. The new ward determination notification recently issued by the Haryana government is not just an administrative formality, but the first move of electoral chess.

On the one hand, the decline in population, reduction in wards reserved for Scheduled Castes and increasing participation of backward classes have shaken the existing equations. At the same time, political parties have started laying their cards from the beginning. The term of the current House is only till 14 January 2026.

Signs of reversal in new political mathematics

According to the new notification, the population of the Municipal Corporation is now 2.71 lakh, which is about 29 thousand less than the legal minimum limit (3 lakh). This figure not only raises questions on the existence of the Municipal Corporation, but also on the administrative preparation and transparency of the census.

Wards can become the center of the strategy of delimitation

Political analysts believe that this time the election can become the center of the strategy of unequal caste representation and ward delimitation. The number of wards reserved for Scheduled Castes has come down from 5 to 3, while Backward Classes- A and B have got 3 wards each, out of which 2 are reserved for women.

Questions raised on the role of administration

When the state government made claims of development and public welfare in municipal corporation areas while talking about cleanliness campaigns and public participation, the same corporation area is facing legal crisis in terms of population. Experts believe that if the population remains less than 3 lakh in the next 2 years, then the status of the corporation itself can be legally cancelled.
