A team from the Health Department of Kurukshetra, Haryana, has busted a sex determination racket in Ambala. The team arrested two employees of a private hospital in Ambala. The accused, Rohit and Mohit, residents of Ambala, were arrested and handed over to the police. Ambala police are taking further action.
Dr. Ramesh Sabharwal, in-charge of the PNDT, said that his team received information that some people in Ambala were illegally conducting fetal sex determination tests. The team then contacted the accused, Mohit, who worked as an employee at Guardian Hospital. When the team contacted him through a fake customer, the accused assured them that he would conduct fetal sex determination tests.
Demanded 75 thousand rupees
In return, he demanded 75,000 rupees, with 20,000 rupees as an advance. Once the deal was finalized, Mohit asked for the money to be transferred to the bank account of a woman named Naina, who works at Khurana Hospital in Ambala. The team transferred 20,000 rupees to Naina’s account on February 6th. Mohit then scheduled the investigation for February 11th.
There was no investigation on February 11.
On February 11th, members of the PNDT team arrived at the designated location. The accused stated that the pregnant woman’s husband must be brought along. The team then persuaded the accused to undergo the test without the bogus client’s husband. However, the accused gave an appointment for the next day, February 12th.
Sting operation done the next day
The next day, when the fake customer arrived at the agreed time and place, Naina sent her driver, Rohit, in a Creta car for the examination. Rohit drove the fake customer to Madan Hospital in his car. A routine ultrasound was performed. The accused then promised to provide the sex determination report or information in two days.
39 thousand cash recovered
The PNDT team then raided the hospital and arrested Rohit on the spot. Following Rohit’s information, the team also arrested Mohit. The team recovered 39,000 rupees in cash from Mohit. During interrogation, Mohit revealed that he had deposited the remaining 16,000 rupees in his bank account.
Police is taking further action
