People back NDA to protect Assam culture: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday expressed strong confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will return to power in Assam, asserting that the people of the state have already made up their minds to re-elect the coalition. Addressing an election rally, Shah said the mandate would be driven by the need to protect Assam’s unique cultural identity and heritage.

His remarks come as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Assam Assembly elections scheduled in April 2026, where the NDA is seeking another term in power.

Focus on protecting Assam’s cultural identity

Shah emphasized that preserving Assam’s traditions, language, and cultural values remains a top priority for the NDA government. He claimed that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has taken significant steps to safeguard the state’s identity from external influences.

The Home Minister claimed that the NDA has reversed this trend by strengthening border security and taking decisive action against illegal immigrants. He said the upcoming election is a choice between safeguarding Assam’s identity and returning to what he described as “weak governance” of the past.
