Amit Shah Endorses Batadrava Project Evictions, Targets Infiltration Concerns

NAGAON, Assam: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committed to removing infiltrators from the entire country. He cited the redevelopment of the historic Batadrava Than in Assam as an example of the government’s resolve against illegal encroachment.
Questioning the presence of alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators at the birthplace of the great saint Srimanta Sankardev, he said, “The BJP is committed to removing all infiltrators from the country. Was it right for infiltrators to be present at Sankardev’s sacred place?”
Amit Shah congratulated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for restoring the Namghar, making it an encroachment-free area.

Accused Congress of Vote Bank Politics

Shah alleged that Congress used infiltrators as a vote bank, threatening Assam’s culture, identity, and security.

He said that over 1 lakh bighas of land had been freed from encroachment, while Congress governments remained inactive despite the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Assam Movement.

He also mentioned the contributions of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi and said, “If it were not for Gopinath ji, Assam and the entire Northeast would not have been part of India.”

Batdrava Cultural Project: Global Centre for Assam’s Heritage

Amit Shah described Batdrava Than as a symbol of Assam’s unity and harmony, where the neo-Vaishnavism propagated by Srimanta Sankardev brings together all communities.

Chief Minister Sarma said that 1.45 lakh bighas of land have been freed from encroachment in the last 10 years, and this campaign will continue. He appealed to encroachers to voluntarily vacate government and state land.

Developed at a cost of approximately ₹217 crore on approximately 162 bighas of encroachment-free land, this project aims to bring Assam’s culture and spiritual heritage to global recognition.
