Panaji: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin a three-day visit to Goa on Saturday, September 5, with a packed schedule focused on internal security, anti-narcotics measures, Centre-state coordination and regional issues.
Shah will remain in Goa until September 7 and is scheduled to chair a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) meeting, address a press conference on narcotics control, participate in the Western Zonal Council meeting and attend several programmes linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Shah to review Goa-related issues on September 6
On September 6, Shah will chair a meeting to review various Goa-related issues handled by different divisions of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The meeting is expected to cover state-specific matters as well as issues falling under the jurisdiction of the Union Home Ministry.
Later in the afternoon, Shah will address a press conference focused on narcotics control. The interaction is expected to highlight measures to tackle drug trafficking, strengthen the country’s anti-narcotics framework and intensify efforts against the illegal movement of drugs.
During his Goa visit, Shah will also inaugurate the BJP’s newly constructed state office building, Atal Bhavan. He will subsequently chair a meeting of the party’s State Core Committee to discuss organisational and political matters.
Western Zonal Council meeting on September 7
On September 7, Shah will participate in the Western Zonal Council meeting, which provides a platform for coordination among states and Union Territories in the western region.
Representatives from Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu are expected to participate in the meeting.
The council will discuss matters related to regional development, administrative coordination and issues requiring inter-state cooperation. The meeting is also expected to focus on common concerns and ways to improve coordination among the participating states and Union Territory.
Goa Police to receive President’s Colours
Following the Western Zonal Council meeting, Shah will attend the Goa Police President’s Colours Award Ceremony at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Taleigao.
The President’s Colours are among the highest honours awarded to uniformed services in recognition of distinguished service, professional excellence and significant contributions to public service and national security.
Shah’s three-day visit will therefore combine reviews of internal security and narcotics-related issues with Centre-state coordination and BJP organisational programmes in Goa.
