‘Amit Shah Jawab Do’: Opposition Protests in Parliament, Demands Home Minister’s Statement

New Delhi: The Opposition on Monday staged a protest in the Parliament premises, questioning the absence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the House and demanding his response on several issues, including the July 20 police action on protesters in Delhi and the alleged Ram Mandir donation controversy.

Opposition raises slogans against Amit Shah

Gathering near the entrance of the Parliament building, Opposition MPs, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a large banner reading, “Amit Shah Sansad se gayab kyon?” (Why is Amit Shah absent from Parliament?).

The protesting members also raised slogans such as “Amit Shah Jawab Do” and “Amit Shah kahan gayab hain?”, demanding that the Union Home Minister address the issues being raised by the Opposition.

Several MPs also carried placards bearing the slogan “Chanda chor, gaddi chhod”, targeting the government over allegations related to the Ram Mandir donation embezzlement case.

Opposition to raise issues in both Houses

The Opposition is expected to seek a statement from Amit Shah in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over the alleged police action on protesters during the July 20 demonstration in the national capital. It is also likely to press the government over the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft row.

The issue gained further attention after Purnea MP Pappu Yadav last week courted controversy by imitating a priest while collecting donations in protest against the alleged donation scam. The Parliament proceedings also come a day after the alleged attack on Pappu Yadav in Delhi.

FCRA Bill may add to heated debate

The protest comes as the Monsoon Session of Parliament enters its eleventh day, with reports suggesting the Centre may introduce the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill, setting the stage for another round of confrontation between the treasury and Opposition benches.

Speaking to ANI, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal said he was not aware of the government’s plans regarding the proposed legislation but asserted that the Opposition would continue demanding an explanation from the Home Minister.

“I don’t know whether they are introducing the FCRA Bill. I don’t have any understanding about that. Let us see. We will raise the same issue of the Home Minister’s explanation in the House… on the lathi-charge and the firing on Delhi students,” Venugopal told ANI.
