New Delhi: Amit Shah’s name has been etched into the annals of Indian political history as he officially became the longest-serving Union Home Minister of the country. Marking a major milestone, Shah has now completed 2,258 days in office, surpassing the previous record held by veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani, who served for 2,256 days.
PM Modi Applauds Historic Tenure
At the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to Amit Shah for this remarkable achievement. He also lauded Shah’s impactful leadership of the Home Ministry, crediting him with implementing the Constitution in its truest sense and advancing the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Key Milestones: From Article 370 to Internal Security
Amit Shah’s tenure has witnessed a series of bold and transformative decisions. The most historic among them was the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 — exactly six years ago — which ended the special status of Jammu & Kashmir and led to its complete integration with India. His term has also been marked by a firm stance on national security, including a crackdown on terrorism and strong measures to enhance internal safety.
Legacy of Leadership
BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya highlighted the significance of Shah’s tenure, noting that prior to Shah and Advani, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel held the record for the longest-serving Home Minister with 1,218 days. Shah has now overtaken both predecessors in terms of tenure length and political impact.
Notably, Shah has set an ambitious goal to eradicate Maoist extremism from India by March 2026 — another cornerstone in his ongoing mission to fortify the nation’s internal security framework.
