New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed Yamuna cleaning at the top of his agenda, while criticising the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to combat river pollution.
Taking a jibe at former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Shah said he failed to fulfil his promise of taking a dip in a clean Yamuna.
“When his cut-out was made to take a dip in the Yamuna, even that landed in Safdarjung Hospital with sickness,” he quipped.
18 Projects Worth Rs 1,816 Crore
At the event, Shah inaugurated 18 projects including new and expanded Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at Kondli, Kehopur, Rohini, Coronation Pillar, Narela, Yamuna Vihar, and Najafgarh. Reservoirs and pumping stations at Siraspur and other locations are also part of the projects.
He noted that 80 per cent of these initiatives are directly linked to Yamuna cleaning.
Highlighting Modi’s leadership, Shah said:
“Just two days back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed 24 years as head of government as PM and CM. He is a towering personality who has pioneered several steps to realise the dream of freedom fighters.”
He added that within seven months, PM Modi has laid out a plan to clean the Yamuna from Yamunotri to Prayagraj.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s Response
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also slammed the former AAP government for failing to utilise the Rs 2,000 crore assistance provided by the Centre.
“Our government has begun work on cleaning the river by conducting drone and physical surveys of 22 large and 200 small drains that flow into the Yamuna,” she said.
She thanked the Central government for its support, adding, “This is just the beginning of our commitment to serve the people, with more initiatives to follow.”
