New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tribute to former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on his death anniversary, remembering him as an incisive legal expert, masterful speaker and ace administrator whose contribution to public life and governance continues to inspire young leaders.

Rajnath Singh recalls Jaitley’s legal expertise

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid his respects to the former Union Minister, describing him as a skilled administrator and outstanding parliamentarian with deep knowledge of constitutional and legal matters.

Singh said Jaitley’s understanding, foresight and logical perspective on politics and policy matters would remain inspiring. He also remembered Jaitley’s dedication to the national interest and his contribution to public life.

Jaishankar remembers Jaitley as friend and mentor

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remembered Jaitley as a friend and mentor to many, highlighting his wisdom, warmth and commitment to public service.

Yogi Adityanath pays tribute

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to the former Union Finance Minister, recalling his contribution to nation-building and his sharp political and intellectual insights.

He said Jaitley’s contribution towards building a strong nation and his thoughts would remain unforgettable and inspiring.

Arun Jaitley’s political and administrative legacy

Arun Jaitley (1952-2019) was a prominent politician, lawyer and senior BJP leader who held several key positions in the Union government.

He served as Union Finance Minister, Defence Minister, Minister of Corporate Affairs, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Minister of Law and Justice.

As Finance Minister, Jaitley played a central role in several major economic and tax policy initiatives of the Narendra Modi government, including the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

He was also known for his strong parliamentary interventions, legal expertise and ability to communicate complex policy matters effectively.

Jaitley died on August 24, 2019, at the age of 66. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honour, in 2020 for his contribution to public affairs.
