Amit Shah Praises 9 Years of Development in Uttarakhand

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the progress made in Uttarakhand over the past nine years under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the state has witnessed rapid development and improved governance during this period.

Speaking during his visit to Haridwar, Shah said Uttarakhand has emerged as a model of growth in infrastructure, tourism, connectivity and public welfare initiatives. His remarks came as part of a programme showcasing the achievements of the state government and the progress made since the BJP came to power in the Himalayan state.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, senior government officials, lawmakers and party leaders, highlighting key milestones in the state’s development journey.

Exhibition showcases development achievements

During the visit, Amit Shah toured a special exhibition organised at Bairagi Camp in Haridwar that displayed major development projects, welfare schemes and policy decisions implemented by the state government.

The exhibition featured visual displays, photographs and models highlighting progress in areas such as road connectivity, healthcare expansion, education reforms and tourism promotion. Officials said the initiative aimed to inform the public about the transformation taking place in the state through various government programmes.

The exhibition also included awareness displays related to India’s new criminal laws, explaining the provisions of modernised justice codes introduced by the central government to strengthen the country’s legal system.

Focus on infrastructure and connectivity

Amit Shah noted that improved infrastructure has played a major role in accelerating Uttarakhand’s development. Road projects, highway expansions and improved connectivity have helped strengthen the state’s economic prospects and tourism sector.

One of the major projects linked to this transformation is the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, a 210-kilometre corridor designed to significantly reduce travel time between the national capital and Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun. The expressway is expected to improve connectivity and boost tourism and investment in the region.

According to officials, better connectivity is also helping remote hill districts gain easier access to markets, healthcare services and educational institutions.

Boost to tourism and religious heritage

Shah also highlighted the government’s efforts to promote religious and cultural tourism in Uttarakhand, which is home to several important pilgrimage sites including Kedarnath Temple, Badrinath Temple, and Gangotri.

Large-scale redevelopment projects around these pilgrimage centres have improved infrastructure, accommodation facilities and transportation access for pilgrims visiting the state.

Tourism officials say these initiatives have helped increase the number of domestic and international visitors to Uttarakhand, contributing to economic growth and employment opportunities for local communities.

Welfare schemes and governance reforms

The Home Minister also emphasised the impact of several public welfare programmes aimed at improving the quality of life for residents. These initiatives include better healthcare infrastructure, improved rural roads, expansion of digital services and strengthened disaster management systems in the hill state.

He said the government’s focus on transparency, technology and citizen-centric governance has helped deliver services more efficiently to people across Uttarakhand’s remote mountainous regions.

Shah also commended the state administration for implementing development projects while preserving the region’s ecological balance and cultural heritage.

Dhami government’s role in recent progress

While praising the broader nine-year development journey under the BJP, Shah also acknowledged the contributions of the Dhami government in accelerating development initiatives over the past few years.

The current administration has prioritised infrastructure expansion, investment promotion, tourism development and border area development to strengthen the state’s economy and security.

State officials said the government’s development strategy aims to transform Uttarakhand into a hub for tourism, spiritual heritage and sustainable economic growth.

Concluding his remarks, Amit Shah expressed confidence that Uttarakhand will continue progressing as a key state in India’s development story. He said sustained investments in infrastructure, tourism and welfare programmes will further improve living standards and create new opportunities for the state’s youth.

He also reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to supporting Uttarakhand’s growth while protecting its fragile Himalayan ecosystem. According to Shah, the state’s progress over the past nine years reflects the government’s broader vision of balanced development across all regions of the country.
