    Amrit Bharat Express Between Amritsar and New Jalpaiguri to Be Flagged Off Today

    Amritsar: In a major boost to rail connectivity between Punjab and Northeast India, Indian Railways is set to launch a new Amrit Bharat Express train service connecting Amritsar and New Jalpaiguri.

    Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu will flag off the train from Platform Number 1 at Amritsar Junction Railway Station during a special ceremony scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Railway officials, dignitaries and members of the public are expected to attend the event.

    According to railway officials, Train Number 14664 the Amritsar-New Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express will operate every Thursday. The train will depart from Amritsar at 12:45 p.m. and reach New Jalpaiguri at 4:15 a.m. after a journey of nearly 39 hours.

    In the return direction, Train Number 14663 the New Jalpaiguri-Amritsar Amrit Bharat Express, will begin operations from May 16, 2026, and will run every Saturday. It will depart from New Jalpaiguri at 8 a.m. and arrive in Amritsar at 2:20 a.m. after around 42 hours of travel.

    Major Stations on Route

    The train will halt at several important railway stations in both directions, including Jalandhar City, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Raxaul, Sitamarhi, Araria, Bagdogra and Siliguri.

    Affordable Travel for Common Passengers

    Railway authorities said the Amrit Bharat Express has been designed to provide affordable and comfortable travel facilities to common passengers. The train consists of eight sleeper-class coaches and 11 general-class coaches.

    Officials said the new service is expected to benefit migrant workers, students, traders and families travelling between northern and eastern parts of the country while improving overall rail connectivity.
