Firing at Amritsar bus stand: Bus timing dispute turns violent; One critically injured

Amritsar: Chaos erupted at the Amritsar bus stand this morning when an argument between employees of two private bus companies over bus timings suddenly turned violent. According to eyewitnesses, as the argument escalated, one of the employees pulled out a weapon in anger and fired.

Khalon bus employee Makhan was hit by about four bullets. Eyewitnesses said that he fell to the ground immediately after being shot and his condition is critical. The incident triggered a stampede among passengers and shopkeepers.

Swift police action, area cordoned off

On receiving information, the police reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area. ACP Gagandeep said that a team was immediately sent to respond to the firing. Initial investigation has revealed that the fight took place over the timings of the bus and earlier picking up of passengers.

Six empty cartridges recovered, CCTV footage probe underway

The police recovered six empty cartridges from the spot. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined to identify the accused who opened fire and trace his escape route. The police said the accused fled the spot and a search has been intensified.

Local residents say that disputes over bus timings have happened before, but no one imagined that it would escalate to firing. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
