According to police officials, the accused were apprehended following a specific intelligence input. During search operations, police teams recovered five modern pistols, believed to be of foreign origin, along with 10 live cartridges. The nature of the weapons suggests they were intended for serious criminal use and not for isolated or personal possession. Police said the timely recovery prevented the weapons from reaching anti-social elements.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were allegedly in direct contact with smugglers based in Pakistan. These connections were reportedly established through social media platforms, which are increasingly being misused by cross-border syndicates to coordinate illegal activities while avoiding traditional communication channels.
Investigators said the accused were acting as local facilitators, receiving instructions from their handlers across the border and arranging the delivery of illegal arms consignments for further distribution to criminal elements operating in Punjab.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, under relevant sections of the Arms Act. Police have initiated a detailed investigation to trace both forward and backward linkages of the network. This includes identifying the source of the weapons, the route used for smuggling, financial transactions involved, and the intended recipients of the arms.
Senior police officials said the arrests are only the first step and that further action is expected as the probe progresses. Multiple teams have been formed to follow digital trails, examine call records, and analyse social media communications to uncover the entire supply chain. Police are also coordinating with central agencies to determine whether the module has links to other criminal or extremist groups.
Reiterating its firm stand, Punjab Police said it remains steadfast in its commitment to dismantle illegal arms trafficking networks and ensure peace and security across the state. Officials stressed that strict action would continue against anyone involved in smuggling, harbouring, or facilitating the circulation of illegal weapons.
The successful operation highlights Punjab Policeโs sustained efforts to counter cross-border crime and send a strong message to criminal syndicates attempting to destabilize the region.
