Amritsar DC orders immediate compensation for flood victims, Launches health measures

Amritsar, Sep 5: Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni reviewed the situation in the flood-affected areas by holding a meeting with officials in Ajnala. She said that the families whose houses have been completely destroyed or whose relatives have died should be compensated immediately so that they do not have to face any problems in the future.

The DC said that relief and rehabilitation work has been started for the affected people. He directed the District Revenue Officer to work with the SDM and other officials to distribute compensation and relief material on time.

He also said that no eligible person should be deprived of relief and all applications and claims related to compensation should be settled immediately, so that people can get help as soon as possible.

Danger of diseases in low-lying areas

Amritsar DC Sakshi Sahni said that the flood water in the villages is receding, but there is a danger of diseases spreading due to water stagnation in low-lying areas. To prevent this, all departments have been instructed to remain alert and take preventive measures.

The Health and Panchayat departments have been ordered to form and immediately deploy rapid response teams for door-to-door surveys. Also, emphasis has been laid on ensuring availability of essential medicines, testing kits and adequate beds in hospitals.

Relief material is being delivered to the villages

DC Sakshi Sahni directed that the cases registered in the health centres should be regularly monitored and fogging should be done in the affected areas. She has also sought a report on this from the departments.

The teams have become active after the DC’s order. Steps are being taken to prevent diseases caused by dirty water and germs in the affected villages. Along with this, relief material is being delivered to the villages and green fodder is also being made available for the animals.
