International Drug Syndicate Busted in Amritsar: 6 Smugglers Held with 30 Kg Heroin Worth ₹300 Crore, Dubai Links Unearthed

Amritsar: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police on Friday claimed to have busted an international drug network in a major breakthrough against drug trafficking. During the operation six accused were arrested and 30.045 kg of heroin was recovered from their possession. This action is considered a significant milestone in the ongoing campaign against drugs in Punjab.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with a Dubai-based trafficker, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the cross-border supply of heroin. This trafficker operated the entire system of supplying and distributing drug consignments in Punjab through his network. Acting on his instructions, the local accused would collect heroin consignments from designated locations and subsequently distribute them across various districts of Punjab.

Estimated Value of Seized Heroin: ₹300 Crore

The recovered 30.045 kg of heroin commands an immense value in the international market. According to experts, its estimated value in India could be around ₹300 crore or more, depending on its purity and prevailing market rates. This seizure highlights the financial strength and extensive reach of the network.

The police are now working to identify other members of the gang and are investigating the financial channels used for this illicit trade. Initial inquiries suggest the involvement of the *hawala* (informal money transfer) network, a lead that is being thoroughly investigated.

NDPS Act Case Registered; Further Action Underway

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar, and further proceedings are underway. The police are tracing the backward and forward linkages of the network to completely dismantle the gang. The Punjab Police has reiterated that such operations to make the state drug-free will continue, and drug traffickers will not be spared at any level.
