Man Shot Dead Outside Gurdwara Chheharta Sahib in Amritsar; Family Alleges Son-in-Law’s Involvement

Amritsar: In a tragic incident on Tuesday morning, Varinder Singh (41) was shot dead while praying outside Gurdwara Chheharta Sahib. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. when the deceased was returning home after dropping his children off at school. Two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot him, injuring him in the back of the head. He was rushed to Fortis Escorts Hospital, but died on the way.

Family accuses son-in-law of involvement

The deceased’s brother, Davinder Singh, claimed that the attack may be linked to a family feud. The deceased’s niece, who was married to Nishan Singh of Dera Baba Nanak, was facing abuse from her husband. Recently, a heated argument broke out while he was being brought home from Dera Baba Nanak, during which Nishan allegedly threatened the family.

Family alleges previous threats were ignored

Davinder Singh said that Nishan Singh opened fire at their home about a month ago. Despite reporting the incident to the police, no arrests were made and only a case of firing in the air was registered. The family believes that proper police action could have prevented Virendra’s death.

His wife, Manjinder Singh, and two children, aged 7 and 11, are grieving.

Second shooting incident in 24 hours

This is the second shooting incident in Amritsar within 24 hours, raising concerns about rising violence in the city. Police are investigating the case and a post-mortem is likely to be conducted before the body is handed over to the family.
