Amritsar: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, the Counter Intelligence wing of the Punjab Police has busted a cross-border drug smuggling network and seized 20 kg of heroin worth an estimated ₹140 crore in the international market. One alleged drug smuggler has been arrested during the operation.

Police said the accused was actively involved in receiving heroin consignments smuggled across the India-Pakistan border before distributing them to different districts of Punjab.

Accused Linked to Foreign-Based Drug Handler

According to the preliminary investigation, the arrested accused was operating on the instructions of a handler based abroad, who is believed to have close links with cross-border drug smugglers.

Investigators revealed that the accused’s primary role was to collect heroin consignments dropped near the international border and transport them to members of the drug network operating within Punjab. Police are now tracing the overseas handler and other members connected to the syndicate.

FIR Registered Under NDPS Act

An FIR has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar.

The Punjab Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify other individuals involved in the racket and determine whether the network has links to previously unearthed drug smuggling modules.

The latest seizure is part of the Punjab Police’s ongoing campaign to dismantle cross-border narcotics networks and curb the flow of drugs into the state.

Officials said operations against drug traffickers and their international handlers will continue, with a focus on breaking the entire supply chain and making Punjab drug-free.
