New Delhi: In a move to bolster regional connectivity, Indian Railways is set to introduce a new Vande Bharat Express linking Amritsar (Punjab) with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (Jammu & Kashmir). The semi-high-speed service will be handled by Northern Railway and is scheduled to begin operations imminently.

The state-of-the-art train will complete the Amritsar–Katra stretch in approximately 5 hours and 35 minutes, significantly enhancing intra-regional travel. Operating six days a week (excluding Tuesdays), the service will run under train numbers 26405/26406.

The Vande Bharat will make four intermediate stops: Beas, Jalandhar City, Pathankot Cantt, and Jammu Tawi, offering passengers broader access and convenience.

Travel is expected to be both rapid and comfortable. The train comprises eight coaches with two classes: AC Chair Car (fare: ₹1,170) and Executive Chair Car (fare: ₹2,085).

This service expands the existing Vande Bharat network, now comprising 144 services nationwide since its 2019 launch. Other Vande Bharat trains on similar routes include those linking Delhi–Katra and Katra–Srinagar.

The Amritsar–Katra Vande Bharat underscores the government’s focus on boosting connectivity in northern India, particularly ahead of the upcoming inauguration of the Ajni–Pune and Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat routes. These expansions coincide with Prime Minister Modi’s planned flag-off events on August 10.
