Amritsar: Police Bust International Drug Racket, Seize 40 Kg Heroin Worth ₹2,800 Crore

Amritsar: In Amritsar, as part of the campaign to make Punjab drug-free, the State Special Operations Cell and Counter Intelligence Amritsar have busted a major international drug smuggling racket.

40 Kg Heroin Recovered, Four Accused Arrested

Police recovered a 40-kilogram consignment of heroin during an undercover operation. Police arrested four suspects from Moga district. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth ₹2.8 billion (approximately $28 billion) in the international market.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav shared this information on his social media account. He stated that counterintelligence had received input that a gang of drug smugglers was planning to transport a large consignment of heroin to various parts of Punjab.

The accused smugglers are residents of Moga district.

The four arrested accused are residents of Kot Isekhan village in Moga district. 40 kilograms of high-quality heroin, estimated to be worth crores of rupees in the international market, was recovered from their possession.

Heroin Meant for Distribution Across Punjab

Preliminary investigations have revealed that these smugglers collected the consignment on the instructions of a notorious and habitual drug trafficker. According to police, the heroin was to be supplied to various districts and locations in Punjab.

Probe into Cross-Border and Pakistan Links

The police are now investigating the backward and forward linkages of this gang to find out where the consignment came from and where it was to be sent.

Being a border area, police are closely investigating cross-border connections in this case. It is suspected that this large consignment of heroin may have been imported from across the border via drone or other means.

An FIR has been registered in this regard at the State Special Operations Cell (SOS) police station in Amritsar. The Punjab Police reiterated their commitment to completely eradicating the drug network from the state. DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “We are working to dismantle the entire supply chain of drug trafficking. There is no place for drug mafias in Punjab.”
